Rennie’s Orphanage & Animal Rescue (ROAR) is a non-governmental organization, started by a young man whose mission is to educate our nation of Trinidad and Tobago on the benefits of having our specific ecosystem and the delicate balance of the interactions between the community members. ROAR seeks to effectively manage the rehabilitation, repopulation and rescue of our wild animals. In 2022, we launched a primate rehabilitation programme focused on Howler and Capuchin monkey with the aim of reintroduction in the wild. ROAR also provides a “forever home” / sanctuary for animals that are so severely damaged that they are usually euthanized, which is a safe environment that would be stimulating and rewarding as they adjust and recover from the damages caused by anthropogenic factors. An integral part of work is environmental education to bring awareness to local biodiversity and the threats they face such as illegal pet trade, overhunting, habitat loss and climate change. We also work with farmers, hunters, government agencies and home owner to reduce human animal conflict while promoting sustainable development. ROAR operates from 323A San Pedro Road Rio Claro, and is the only sanctuary in the South East of the island of Trinidad. Having officially opened our doors on Sunday 1st June, 2014 we are working to provide the animals in our charge with the best possible captive experience.
